The Civilian Emergency Response Team in Marion County are trained groups living in mostly gated communities who should respond after a hurricane or tornado goes through to check on people’s welfare and damage in their areas.
In most parts of Florida, CERT is a county wide operation, responding as needed. The teams in Marion County do not operate that way. They stay in their respected areas. CERT is connected to the EOC via MERT, and they have a VHF repeater that can be heard county wide at KJ4CLL. During a call up, there will be an NCO, probably operating from the EOC, and is for their use.
If you want to find out more or join CERT, there sign-up forms for volunteers is at the same MCSO website page for MERT.
